Brandon Peterson - A Miracle in the Works!
October 15 - Update!
October 05, 2009
Update - Thursday, October 15: Rebecca Peterson, Brandon's mom, emailed me an update this morning and reported that Brandon visited with his doctor this week and he will not be coming back to school for a while longer. Brandon is still experiencing some pain and his stamina is still a little on the short side. With some of the flu moving through our school now it is in Brandon's best interest to stay at home for a little longer. With his weakened condition, he does not need any other type of illness or infection within his body. He is better but just not well enough to be back in the full swing of all the activity surrounding our school! It gets pretty lonely at home recovering so if you could give him a "short" call he would probably appreciate it. Keep him in your prayers every single day because this type of major surgery does not just heal itself overnight. It's going to take some time and patience!
Friday night after the volleyball match at Poolville, my trusty companion, Collin Bachman, and I headed southeast toward Ft. Worth and Cook Children's Hospital to visit with Mr. Brandon "Petey" Peterson. Most of you know that Brandon underwent some very serious heart arterial surgery last Monday and had a very touch and go week of recovery. Brandon was in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Cook's for most of the week but when we arrived Friday they had moved him to a special room on the heart patient floor. I will quickly let you know that Petey was doing much better Friday night and was sitting up slightly in his bed.
When I stop to think about the entire Brandon Peterson saga I am still amazed at how truly blessed he, his family, and our school have been! From a simple football athletic physical to the Cook Children's Hospital operating room is quite a road to travel in a couple of months! And, I assure you that the Peterson family has many stories of God's wonderful grace to share with all who will listen. Their road has been littered with a multitude of emotions - fear, anxiety, hope, and gratitude for the many prayers that have been lifted on their behalf. Having a sick or injured child is one of the hardest - no, it is THE hardest challenge a parent can face and I cannot imagine facing this challenge without a very strong faith.
Brandon was in good spirits Friday night and said to tell everyone hello. He really appreciated all the signatures and good wishes on the poster - even though it was on pink paper! If all goes well, he may get to come home toward the end of this week. We'll continue to keep Petey and his family in our prayers.
