Bobcats Take First District Win from Lingleville

LadyCats Score Big Against Lingleville

by Gordon Grubbs

January 06, 2010

The Newcastle Bobcats and LadyCats took a pair of games last night from the Lingleville Cardinals!  The Bobcats won 60-55 and the LadyCats score was 65-24!

The Bobcats jumped out on top of the Cardinals in the first quarter by a score of 13-10 and then nearly doubled the Cardinals during the second quarter by a score of 31-19.  The Bobcats had four players scoring in double figures with Brandon Bailey totaling 17, Nic Libby with 16, Michael Moreno with 13 and Casey Terrell had 11.

Cody Coop takes a shot vs. Lingleville

The final quarter got a little more exciting with the full court pressure applied by Lingleville and the cold free throw shooting from the Bobcats.  The score at the beginning of the fourth quarter was Bobcats 49 - Lingleville 29!  Do the math!  The Cardinals scored 26 in the final quarter to the Bobcats 11 points!  Bottomline it was a good victory and it gave our new, freshman point guard, Michael Moreno, a chance to get some floor time under a great deal of pressure.  It was a great opportunity for learning and I think Michael and the other Bobcats will only be better players because of the experience!  Great job Bobcats!

The LadyCats game was exact opposite.  The LadyCats jumped out ahead of Lingleville from the opening tip and rarely let up!  I began to feel sorry for the Lady Cardinals with a 22-4 first quarter score and - listen to this - a half time score of 43-13!!  Most of the time we don't even score 43 for the entire game!  Scoring for the LadyCats did not necessarily come from one or two players.  Our score book has numbers up and down the columns with Tara and Haily each scoring 14 for high point honors!

Jenna, Courtney, and Whitney fill the lanes!

There will be no rest for the weary come this Friday because both teams will be challenged severely by the basketball teams from Strawn!  It's an away game and we rarely play great in Strawn so the Bobcats and LadyCats will need all of the support we can muster!  Make time to travel to Strawn and watch these games, support our kids and perhaps we can all celebrate a couple of victories at Mary's with a chicken-fried!!
