Bobcats/LadyCats Sweep Gordon
LadyCats 48-31........Bobcats 59-30
January 18, 2010
The Newcastle Bobcats and LadyCats swept the Gordon Longhorns and Lady Longhorns to maintain their current second place district standings. The Bobcats are behind Lipan and the LadyCats are behind Strawn for the district crown.
The LadyCats will begin the second round of district play next Tuesday with a trip to Bryson. To be quite honest, the LadyCats should be the district leaders if not for horribly cold shooting at Strawn. The LadyCats led the first three quarters and then let the Lady Greyhounds have their way in the fourth quarter. We can all look forward to returning the favor when Strawn comes to play during the first week of February!
Friday night the LadyCats jumped on the Lady Longhorns and never let up in a 48-31 win! It was much like the game with Strawn except our field goal percentage was much better and we played all four quarters. The LadyCats played hard the entire game and all girls made contributions to the victory! High point girl for the LadyCats was Haily Kramer with 16 and her lone three pointer came at the fourth quarter buzzer from the NBA three point arc! Other scoring for the LadyCats was spread throughout the lineup with Tara and Courtney Bailey with 6 points each; Kimberly and Latisha each had 5 and Amy and Whitney had 4 each. Courtney Spitzer contributed 2 points.
The Bobcats were paying close attention to the LadyCats during the first game because they came out and did the exact same thing and jumped on the Longhorns with a first quarter 10 point lead! Every single Bobcat got his name in the book and just about everyone scored at least one basket. Brandon Bailey led all scorers with 16; Casey Terrell added 10 and Cody Coop and Michael Moreno added 7 more. Nic Libby made 5 points and Paul Martinez had 4. Shane "Shaq" Potter and Cody Lowe contributed 3 points each and 2 points each were made by Dakota and Shot Lowe. The final score was Bobcats 59 and Gordon 30.
The LadyCats should have no trouble with the Bryson Cowgirls based on our first meeting but the Bobcats are heading into unknown territory with their first encounter with the Cowboys. The game is Tuesday night at 6:30 pm and everyone should come and support the varsity basketball teams! Friday's game is at home versus Huckabay.
